Brandon Wilkins is an LA-based jazz saxophonist and woodwind specialist. Having graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2015, he is now making waves in the music world. Known for his sound, musicality, and technical prowess, you can find him on stage with artists such as Billy Cobham (Mahavishnu Orchestra), Bill Holman (Stan Kenton), and Jon Mayer (John Coltrane).
Growing up in Los Angeles, Brandon’s love for music was instilled during his childhood. His father, a drummer and a seasoned music veteran, took him to jam sessions and concerts at an early age. His mother worked at a large music company. You could say that Brandon was surrounded by music nearly every day.
Brandon started off on drums, like his father, but eventually was pulled towards the saxophone and things took off from there. Growing in seriousness, his studies took him to Berklee College of Music, where he was mentored by George Garzone, Phil Wilson, and many other great teachers. There, he spent much time honing his craft, inspired by his peers.
After graduating in 2015, Brandon moved around a bit, contributing to the music scenes in New York and Kansas City, eventually settling again in Los Angeles, his home. Ever since his move, Brandon has been on a steep upward trajectory, with impressive credits for his (or any) age. Below are a few highlights:
Billy Cobham
Poncho Sanchez
Bill Holman
Charlie Aponte
Bob Sheppard
Carl Saunders
Doug Webb
Jon Mayer
Eddie Wakes
John Daversa
When Brandon isn’t performing live, you can find him at home in his studio, recording woodwinds for the film and television world, or mixing/producing for local artists in LA. He also has a budding YouTube channel where he talks about music, recording, and woodwinds. You can check that out here
if you must know...
Brandon is in love with all of his horns from Selmer, Hammig, Yamaha, F. Lorée, Sankyo, Fox, and Buffet Crampon!
His mouthpieces include models from Otto Link, Meyer, Selmer, Lawton, and Vandoren.
